Post AGM Q&A 2025
At Wigton Energy Limited’s Annual General Meeting on October 3, 2025 questions were asked by shareholders and responses were provided by the Company’s leadership during the meeting.
When are dividend payments distributed?
Dividend payments are distributed once a dividend has been considered and declared by the Board of Directors of the Company in accordance with the Company’s Dividend Policy.
When was the last dividend paid?
The last dividend payment date was July 29, 2024.
Why didn’t we get links to the audited Financial Statements?
Wigton’s Audited Financial Statements are published on its website and are also available on the website of the Jamaica Stock Exchange.
How and when are we notified when dividend payments are distributed?
After a dividend is declared, dividend payment disclosures are posted to the Jamaica Stock Exchange’s website as well as to Wigton’s website. Notifications and/or Cheques are also sent to the address on record of all shareholders by the Company’s Registrar, Jamaica Central Securities Depository Limited.
We’ve been noticing growing interest in the Electric Vehicle (EV) space. Can you comment on whether you see meaningful opportunities there?
Global data shows that electric vehicles (EV) sales grew 25% in 2024 compared to 2023, with EVs topping 20% of new car sales for the first time. In the Caribbean and the Latin American region, specifically, EV sales grew 60%. Wigton, therefore sees this as a meaningful opportunity particularly through the efforts of its subsidiary Flash Holdings Limited which distributes electric vehicles regionally through its subsidiary Flash Motors Company Limited (together “Flash”).
With respect to Flash, we are encouraged by the progress being made and remain positive about its long-term prospects. As with any emerging business, we continue to monitor developments in the market and assess our position accordingly, ensuring we remain well-aligned with both the opportunity and the evolving landscape.
I have not been receiving my dividends. I change my address and ask that same be sent to my account, but I am not seeing a payout. How do I get this done moving forward?
Please contact Wigton’s Registrar, Jamaica Central Securities Depository Limited, by sending an email to jcsdrs@jamstockex.com or calling (876) 967-3271 or you may contact your broker to update your records and payment preference.
What are the strategies going forward to take up a greater market share with a view of growth so shareholders can benefit?
Wigton’s growth strategy is focused on expanding both generation capacity and the scope of operations to capture a greater share of the renewable energy market, while delivering sustainable returns for shareholders.
Key strategies going forward include:
(i) Diversification of the Energy Portfolio through opportunities beyond wind energy including solar, to build a balanced renewable portfolio that reduces risk and ensures consistent revenue streams;
(ii) Regional Expansion where Wigton is exploring partnerships and investment opportunities across the Caribbean, leveraging technical expertise to enter new markets with a growing demand for renewable energy solutions;
(iii) Technological Innovation and Efficiency as the Company plans to continue to invest in modern energy technologies, that will position Wigton as a competitive and forward-looking energy provider; and
(iv) Strategic Partnerships that align with our mission and offer synergies in operations, technology, or market access.
Through these initiatives, Wigton Energy aims to strengthen its market position, grow revenues, and deliver enhanced shareholder value while contributing to Jamaica’s and the region’s energy transition.
Are you or can you explore bioenergy?
Wigton will continue to review market conditions to identify and deliver the most favourable renewable energy solutions. Based on current bioenergy studies for Jamaica, the levelized cost of energy from bioenergy is presently higher than that of other renewable technologies, and feedstock availability remains inconsistent. As such, bioenergy is not a part of Wigton’s immediate development plans. However, as market conditions evolve and the renewable energy landscape changes, Wigton will continue to assess and re-evaluate opportunities in this area.
For clarity around phase 1, how is the repowering going to be executed from wind to solar? Will it be a case that the turbines will be turned off once the solar project is complete?
Yes, the consideration is to install the full 20.7 MW of capacity in solar separate from the Phase I wind turbine facility, which decommissioning will be addressed in discussion with regulators and key stakeholders.
More households are using personal energy. How would this affect future demand for solar energy from Wigton?
Wigton’s focus is on large-scale renewable energy, which is becoming more important both globally and here in Jamaica. Around the world, countries are moving toward cleaner energy to reduce carbon emissions, and Jamaica is doing the same through its energy policies.
As the country shifts away from fossil fuels, renewables will make up a bigger share of the energy mix, creating strong growth opportunities for Wigton. The Company’s projects will continue to play an important role in providing reliable, affordable renewable energy to the national grid. While smaller solar systems will grow as well, it is expected that Wigton’s larger projects will remain a key part of Jamaica’s plan to build a cleaner, more sustainable energy future.
With Wigton’s 20 plus years of experience, are there any opportunities for regional growth in the wider Caribbean?
Yes, there are utility-scale renewable energy opportunities and Wigton has participated in several meetings and market readiness consultations and is ready to respond to a number of regional renewable energy tenders expected between 2025-2026.
Which lands will be used for the solar farm? Is it possible to have a hybrid of agriculture and solar? Assuming it’s not marginal lands.
The 49.83 MW solar farm will be situated in Lionel Town, Clarendon. Wigton’s focus is on currently on renewable energy and clean energy technologies and is therefore not pursuing co-location agriculture at this time.
How does Wigton see itself in competing with JPS if they do have access to cheaper fossil fuel?
Jamaica continues to explore oil in parallel with its National Energy Policy targets of 50% renewable energy in the electricity mix by 2030. Therefore, Wigton will continue to lead on the renewable/clean energy transition and also benefit from the advances in renewable energy technology where renewables are on or below par with the cost of fossil fuel generation in territories with fossil fuels.
